Caroline Sweet’s career in education has focused on multilingual learners in bilingual and dual-language settings. She is most passionate about serving culturally and linguistically diverse populations and fostering reading and writing classrooms that encourage all students to share their stories. She is the author of Patterns of Power en español and Patterns of Wonder en español.
Robert Kaplinsky
Robert Kaplinsky has been an educator since 2003 as a classroom teacher, teacher specialist for Downey Unified School District, instructor for the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and presenter at conferences around the world. He co-founded the website Open Middle, has been published in Edutopia and Education Week, is the author of Open Middle Math: Problems That Unlock Student Thinking, and created the #ObserveMe movement. He’s also the founder and president of Grassroots Workshops.
Tonya B. Perry
Tonya B. Perry is a Professor of Secondary English Education and serves as the Executive Director for GEAR UP Alabama and the Red Mountain Writing Project at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. In her roles, she works for equity, focusing on civically and justice-engaged teaching, service, and scholarship. She is a co-author with Steve Zemelman and Katy Smith of Teaching for Racial Equity.
Travis Leech
For nearly two decades, Travis Leech has excelled in various roles in the world of education, from middle school language arts teacher to district instructional coach and curriculum designer. He has co-authored two books in the Patterns of Power series (Grades 6-8 and Grades 9-12) with Jeff Anderson. He is also a co-author of the Patterns of Revision series (Grades 6, 7, and 8).
